Description

Long-term sitting in one position is not natural for the human body. But we live in a digital world, and more and more people are working with computers and sitting in the office. As a result, many people suffer minor at first but later serious health problems, which are mainly associated with very unpleasant back pain, but also other problems, such as hand pain, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, tendon and muscle inflammation and other damage from repetitive strain (RSI syndrome).

The science that deals with the study of optimal working conditions is called ergonomics. Its goal is to design the work environment to ensure good health, safety and support the best possible work performance. The ideal workplace should correspond to the parameters of each specific figure.

The most important is the position of the body at work. It is good to remember the so-called right angle rule. The legs should be bent at the knees at a right angle and the feet should be laid flat on the floor. Upright posture ensures a right angle between the torso and the femur. The forearm should also be at right angles to the arm. Tension in the muscles is mainly caused by raised or, conversely, overhanging shoulders. The elbows should be located slightly above the plane of the keyboard. The correct height of the work table is also important.

The basis of healthy sitting is a quality chair. Comfort at work is affected by the height adjustment of the chair, its mobility and a certain rigidity of the structure. Supporting the back in the sacrum facilitates upright sitting without putting special strain on the muscles around the spine.

During the session, try to stretch and change the position of the limbs. Sometimes it is advisable to interrupt the work, relax with a few exercises and possibly take a walk.
