Nothosaurus belongs to a medium-sized marine reptiles. The length reaches maximaly 3‒4 meters. The genus is characterized by a longer neck, prolonged flat skull and by jaws possessing longer needle-like teeth. Limbs are not yet fully modified into the fin-like paddles. The length of the tail approximately corresponds to the length of the neck. Nothosaurids lived in the Triassic Period (238-210 Ma) in Europe, China, North Africa and Israel.
