Stegosaurus belongs to herbivorous ornithischian dinosaurs. The length of the adult animal was 9‒10 meters, the height was 4 meters (including dorsal plates), and the weight exceeded almost 3‒5 tons. The skull and the brain are extremely small. Teeth are diminutive and adapted to plant food. The dorsal part is covered by plates used as protection but rather as a thermoregulation organ and/or as a feature of sexual dimorphism. The tail possesses two pairs of spikes with a defense function. Frontal limbs are significantly shorter than posterior ones.
