Description

Pteranodon belongs among the largest Pterosaurs known. The wingspan exceeds to 8 meters and the weight to ca 20‒40 kg. The skull is markedly prolonged, with developed crest (probably significantly longer in the male specimens). The toothless jaws are slightly cambered and quite long. The lower jaw exceeds almost 1,3 m in length. The neck is relatively short as well as the tail (25 cm). Pteranodon is known from the Upper Cretaceous sediments (86‒84 Ma) of Northern America. He preyed predominantly on fish.
