Description

Pteranodon is among the largest known Pterosaurs (flying reptiles). The wingspan exceeds eight meters, weighing 20‒40 kg. The skull is markedly prolonged, with a developed crest (probably significantly longer in the male specimens). The toothless jaws are slightly cambered and quite long. The lower jaw exceeds almost 1,3 m in length. The neck and tail are relatively short (25 cm). Pteranodon is recognized from Upper Cretaceous sediments in North America, dating approximately 86–84 million years ago. They preyed predominantly on fish. ## Keywords Mesozoic, Upper Cretaceous, pterosaurs, Pterosauria, Pteranodontidae
