Elasmosaurus belongs to the largest Plesiosaurids. The length exceeds 14‒15 meters, and the weight is supposed to be a little bit more than two tons. The genus is characterized by abnormally long neck (containing about 70 vertebrae), a small head, and typical indentation (with marked premaxillary frontal teeth). Limbs are modified into four massive paddles. The tail is short and huge. Elasmosaurids inhabited the Late Cretaceous seas in North America and Europe in 80 Ma. ## Keywords Mesozoic, Cretaceous, marine reptiles, Sauropterygia, plesiosaurs, Elasmosauridae
