Giganotosaurus belongs to the largest Theropods known. His length was 12‒14 m and the weight was calculated to be 7‒8 tons. Skull is relatively slender and prolonged, in the largest specimens it could exceed to 1,6‒1,7 m. Arms possessing larger claws are significantly shorter than the rear pair, a feature occuring within the family. The markedly higher spines of vertebrae are developed in the pectoral part of the ridge. Giganotosaurus was a top predator and it lived 100 Ma (97 Ma) in the territory of present Argentina.
