Description

This model shows us the classical experiment. A **weight loaded wire sling** is made to pass through a **block of ice**, but does **not cut it** apart because the **plane of separation refreezes again**. We call this process the **regelation of ice**.

The usual explanation is mostly based on the anomaly of water, specifically the *decrease of melting temperature with an increase in pressure*. However a dominant part of explanation is that **heat conduction** plays an important role in this experiment. When we try the same experiment with wire which has **less heat conductivity** (for example nylon wire), the **effect of regelation disappears**.
