Description

This model shows how to measure the weight of an object if we do not have standard weights. We need a rope (cable) fixed to two stands at the same height. We also need another object with a known weight. Then we fix both objects to the rope. The part of the rope between these fixing points needs to be horizontal. For a two-dimensional situation with horizontal and vertical forces, the sum of the forces requirement is two equations: ΣH = 0 and ΣV = 0. The torque gives us a third equation: Στ = 0. Thus, we need three equations to solve statically determinate equilibrium problems in two-dimensions.
