Description

**Hydro-electric power** supplies approximately **17.5%** of the world's electricity. In some countries, it is a major source of electric power. In **Norway**, it covers **99% of the energy source**. **Hydro-turbines** are using the **potential energy** of rivers or lakes which is transformed to **kinetic energy** when the water falls down. The water flows through a **turbine** to generate electricity. Water turbines depend on the impulse of the working fluid on the **turbine blades**.

This animation looks inside a hydroelectric power plant and hydro-generator. It examines its components and shows how water drives the turbine to generate electricity.
