Description

Sundial is the earliest type of timekeeping device. It measures the time of day by the position of the shadow of an object exposed to the sun’s rays. The sun moves across the sky. As the day progresses the shadow of the object moves and indicates the passage of time. The first device for indicating the time of day was probably the gnomon, dating from about 3500 BCE. It was similar to our model.
