Phase Transition – Sublimation and Desublimation

by Corinth

Description

During sublimation, the solid is converted to gas without melting the solid. The opposite is desublimation.

An example is sublimation and desublimation of iodine: If I heat the solid iodine, the crystal structure is converted directly into the gaseous (two-atom iodine molecules are formed). When its gas is cooled, it directly converts back to a solid crystal structure.
