Phosphoric Acid

by Corinth

Description

**Molecular formula:** H₃PO₄

**Molar mass:** 97,996 g/mol

**Information:** Orthophosphoric acid (trivially called phosphoric acid) is a colourless crystalline solid. This is a moderately strong tribasic acid without oxidizing effects. Most metals do not dissolve in it because diluted phosphoric acid forms on the surface layer insoluble phosphates.

**Use:** It is used in food (E338) and is an important raw material for the production of phosphate fertilizers.

**Appearance:** It is found in the form of a phosphate anion (phosphate) bound in biochemical compounds (e.g. in nucleic acids) and occurs in living organisms.
