A trigonal dipyramid, a 12-faced crystalline form, exhibits several symmetry elements: a center of symmetry, four mirror planes, three 2-fold rotation axes, and one 3-fold rotation axis. The three mirror planes and three 2-fold rotation axes align along the crystallographic axes a₁, a₂ and a₃. The remaining 3-fold rotation axis runs along the crystallographic c-axis, which is perpendicular to the final mirror plane. All planes and rotation axes intersect at the center of the crystal, where the center of symmetry resides. The trigonal dipyramid is a characteristic form within the trigonal crystal system.
