Description

Trilithons are a specific type of megalithic structure, typically consisting of three large stones: two vertical pillars supporting a horizontal lintel. These structures are still found today, mainly in northwestern Europe, particularly in the British Isles, and throughout the Mediterranean. The oldest megalithic structures date from the Neolithic period, with the most recent examples being from the Late Bronze Age. The structures are believed to have served cultural, ritualistic or funerary purposes.
