Description

The National Library of Greece in the centre of Athens. This neoclassical building is one of three in the same style by Danish architect Theophil Hansen, creating a trilogy with the Academy and the University. This building was opened in 1903, although the library collection had been growing since it began around 1830, and in 2018 some 720,000 items of the National Library of Greece were relocated to a new modern building at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC).
