Description

The shadow of the volcano is visible on the clouds as the sun rises on the Merapi Volcano, Central Java, Indonesia.
Merapi (literally Fire Mountain in Indonesian and Javanese) is an active stratovolcano located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces and is the most active volcano in Indonesia, with regular eruptions since the first was documented in 1548. Despite the danger, many people still live on Merapi’s slopes, with some villages as high as 1,700 meters above sea level.
