Description

The heart is a vital organ found in our circulatory system. As an organ it has the important job of pumping blood around the body. It achieves this as it is a muscular pump made up of cardiac muscles. This means they contract on their own and work tirelessly throughout their lifetime. 1. Superior Vena Cava: Vein leading blood to the heart from the body. 2. Aorta: Artery taking blood from the heart to the body. 3. Pulmonary Arteries: Arteries that take blood from the heart to the lungs. 4. Left Atrium: Small chamber of the heart that receives blood from the lungs. 5. Semi Lunar Valves: Valves at the base of the arteries that prevent the backflow of blood. 6. Atrial Ventricular Valve: Valves that separate the atrium and ventricle. 7. Left Ventricle: Large chamber receiving blood from the atrium. 8. Pulmonary Veins: Vein leading blood to the heart from the lungs. 9. Right Atrium: Small chamber of the heart that receives blood from the body. 10. Tricuspid Valve: Valves that separate the atrium and ventricle. 11. Inferior Vena Cava: Vein leading blood to the heart from the body. 12. Right Ventricle: Large chamber receiving blood from the atrium.
