# Learning objectives Explain the significance of the Normandy landings.{.info} Understand the human cost of D-Day{.info} # The Landing{.objective .objective1} The first section of this scene looks at the reasoning behind landing on the beaches of France during the day as well as the number of troops that were involved. Students can observe the landing craft and consider how the allies made it to the beaches on D-Day. # Defences {.objective .objective2} This section deals specifically with how the beaches in Normandy were defended, focusing on the fortifications and hedgehogs on the beach. Students should look for evidence of how and why the beaches of Normandy were defended. # The Human Cost {.objective .objective3} This section of the scene deals with the number of troops that would killed or missing after the D day landing. The scene does not show any death or blood, however missing soldiers are represented with discarded rifles, boots and helmets.
