This Explorable Scene allows students to experience a coastal habitat. While there are many different types of coastal habitat, including rocky cliffs and salt marshes, here students have the opportunity to explore cliffs, a sandy beach and the sea. Viewers might notice the tide going out and leaving wet sand in the intertidal zone, and the gently sloping sandy beach heading up to the cliffs which have been weathered and eroded over the years and include a small shelf where plants such have grasses have taken hold on the tiny, exposed ridge. What further living things might be found in this coastal habitat? This supporting document provides three focus points, which teachers may want to use to scaffold and guide their students through this experience. The second page outlines how teachers can use this explorable scene in geography, chemistry, biology and music.
