# What was Vietnam like before the war?{.objective .objective1}

Indochina, the country we recognised today as Vietnam, was previously ruled by the French. Walking around this scene, students can learn about Indochina in great detail and be able to explain the environment in Indochina.

# Why did America become involved in the war?{.objective .objective2}

The USA entered the war in April 1954, when President Eisenhower informed that Indochina had fallen to the communists. In July1965, President Johnson ordered more than 50,000 soldiers to be sent to Vietnam. Here students can observe how the soldiers lived and any challenges people from both Vietnam and America faced.

# What happened during the Vietnam War?{.objective .objective3}

By May 1961, President J. F. Kennedy started to send helicopters to Vietnam against Vietcong operations. By January 1962, the US Air Force started spraying herbicides over rural areas in South Vietnam to kill crops and food that could be used by the opposition. These actions were more modernised siege tactics to prevent the North Vietnamese from having enough food and supplies, to make them surrender. Here students can observe key events of the war in chronological order.

# What was the impact of the Vietnam War?{.objective .objective3}

The Vietnam War ended in 1975 and had a significant impact across the world. Here students can examine how tue to public perception of the war, the US Veterans were snubbed and hated by the public due to the reports in the media of the chemical weapons and civilian massacres (most notably the Mai Lay Massacre) that were used through the duration of the war. Furthermore, students can learn that the war left Vietnam with many problems such as prostitution, poverty, drug abuse and environmental damage.
