The scene lets students explore the site of the of the Berlin Wall at the time of its fall. Here students will see the setup of the checkpoint, how the organisation made it difficult for East German citizens to cross, with surveillance points and Czech hedgehogs, but importantly experience the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

# Why was the Berlin Wall Built? {.objective .objective1}

Students will learn about the reasons behind the erection of the Berlin Wall. They will learn about the difference in political structure between East and West Germany, and the East’s desire not to be overtaken by the democratic West. Students will learn about the lengths the East German government went to, to prevent citizens leaving for the West of Germany.

# The Fall of the Berlin Wall {.objective .objective2}

Students will learn about the fall of the Berlin Wall. They will learn what led to the events in 1989, and what west and east German citizens did to break down the barrier. Students will learn about the lengths citizens went to, to bring the wall down.

# The Impact of the Falling of the Berlin Wall{.objective .objective3}

Students will learn that the East Germans were able to finally enjoy the freedoms not experienced before. They will learn that some of these freedoms included electing their own government, travelling freely, and expressing their views without being supressed by the authorities.
