The scene lets students explore the site of the of the Taj Mahal. One of the largest and decorated tombs to show the lavish lifestyle the empress lived, built in honour of the Mughal’s favourite wife after she passed away, both Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal are buried beneath the main structure. A white marble structure, with a distinctive dome roof and built symmetrically, it is the centre piece of a large complex surrounded by a garden and water feature.

In this section, a description of the Taj Mahal will be provided. Built as a tomb to honour the Mughal’s favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, it served as a resting place after she died and as a shrine in her honour.
Students will be able to explore the internal area of the Taj Mahal and observe the intricate design. Here they will observe the symmetrical layout in its design.

In this section, the importance of the Taj Mahal will be outlined. The Taj Mahal has, since its construction, become a symbol of identity for Indian Muslims. It also symbolises the achievements of the age of Mughal rule.
Students will be able to explore the Taj Mahal and learn to describe its appearance. They will be asked to identify clues that show the symbolism of wealth, progress and achievement during the Mughal rule.
