The German Empire

The German Empire (also known as the Second Reich) was founded on 18th January 1871. The German Empire consisted of 25 states, each with their own nobility, four kingdoms, five duchies, seven principalities, three free Hanseatic cities and one imperial territory. This scene takes the form of a city in Prussia during the German Industrial Revolution that students can explore to learn about the significance of Otto von Bismarck, his policies, and the unification of Germany.

In this scene students can learn about how the German Empire declined due to the dismissal of Bismarck, the First World War, and the Treaty of Versailles. In these sections students are asked to enter the scene and describe what life was like during the German Empire.
