Description

This scene takes place in the Punctuation Dragons’ lair following an eruption of slime, which is coating their possessions. Students will be tasked to help the dragons by retrieving their possessions and returning them to each dragons’ laundry basket on the platform.

# Objectives:

1: Understand how an apostrophe is used to show possession.{.info}

2: Understand how the apostrophe position changes for singular and plural nouns.{.info}

# What is a possessive apostrophe?{.objective .objective1}

A possessive apostrophe is a punctuation mark used to show that something belongs to someone or connects to something.

Students will be asked to explore the slime spill and identify movable objects which belong to the dragon characters. They will then move these objects to the correct laundry baskets placed on the platform. There will be a laundry basket for each dragon and an area for the dragon’s lair key.

The objects to collect are:

- Quentin’s beakers

- Freddy’s gavel

- Cornelius’s weights

- Alina’s gold

- Eric’s microphone

- Quinn’s phone

- Cassia’s clipboard

- Christian’s incense

- Sabrina’s book

- Dragons’ key

# Singular Nouns{.objective .objective2}

For singular nouns, the apostrophe is added to the end of the word with the letter **s**. When a singular noun ends in **s**, an apostrophe is added, but because the word already ends with **s**, another **s** is not needed.

# Plural Nouns{.objective .objective3}

For plural nouns, apostrophes are used to show that something belongs to more than one person or is connected to more than one thing, For plural nouns that end in an **s**, the apostrophe is added after the **s**. If the plural noun does not end with an **s**, the **s** is added to the end of the word with an apostrophe before it.

Students are directed to the platform where they will find the names of the dragons and their baskets displayed. They will be tasked with placing x8 movable apostrophe marks to the correct parts of the words. Two have been completed for them. The following hint will be provided within the scene:

Words ending in **s** = **s‘**

Words that do not end in **s** = **‘s**
