The Enchanted Forest is a wonderful and mystical place filled with lush, green mosses and towering trees which are hundreds of years old! Home to magical fairies and our very own Punctuation Dragons, the forest is the place to go for play, peace, and practicing English language!

# Objectives:

1: Understand what a suffix is.{.info}

2: Apply the suffix of –ed to change the meaning of a verb.{.info}

3: Apply the suffix of –ing to change the meaning of a verb.{.info}


This scene will take students to a magical forest environment where they will observe our dragon characters engaged in a variety of activities to provide them a visual example of when to use the suffixes of –ed and –ing. The base word for each activity will be provided, printed on signposts within the scene. The following base words will be included:

**Walk**

**Clean**

**Cook**

**Paint**

For each signpost there will be the following action performed by the dragon characters:

- Cooked

- Cooking

- Walked

- Painting

- Cleaning

Additional character actions (without a signpost):

- Combing (fairy)

- Flying (fairy)

- Sleeping (mouse)

- Opened (cave door)

- Opening (cave door)

- Closed (cave door)

- Closing (cave door)


# The suffix of –ed{.objective .objective1}

This section will give a definition of what a suffix is and how adding –ed to a base word changes its meaning.

Students will be encouraged to explore the wood and describe what the dragons are doing. They will be asked to observe whether any of the dragons have finished their activity. There are movable signs with ‘–ed’ printed on them which your students can move to the identified dragon.


# The suffix of –ing{.objective .objective2}


When the suffix of –ing is added to a base word, it describes something that is a continuous activity or happening in the present moment.

Students will observe the dragon characters in the scene and move the signs printed with the suffix ‘-ing’ to the dragons actively engaged in an activity.

Students are encouraged to look for other characters in the forest and describe what they are doing. They should decide whether they would apply an –ed or –ing suffix to the action those characters are completing.
