Description

Jellyfish belong to Cnidaria group. The majority of them live in sea waters and are radially symmetrical. Their body is plate-like in shape with stinging tentacles. The gelatinous body consists of up to 98% water and can grow to 2 m in diameter. They have very primitive eyes on their body surface. Inside is a digestive cavity that has only one opening (inhaling and exhaling). An unusual way of swimming when their plate-like body is contracted is the most efficient way of locomotion in water. Jellyfishes are carnivorous and can feed upon small invertebrates, fishes and even other jellyfish. They use their stinging tentacles to hunt. Toxin can be very strong and can easily kill an adult human when it is not careful enough while swimming.
