Description

**Lungs** are the main organs for breathing. The main function of the **trachea** is to funnel the inhaled air to the lungs and the exhaled air back out of the body.

The **heart** is a complex muscle that pumps blood through the three divisions of the circulatory system: the coronary (vessels that serve the heart), pulmonary (heart and lungs), and systemic (systems of the body).

The **stomach** is a saclike organ that secretes gastric digestive juices. The **pancreas** is important gland that secretes digestive juices.

The **spleen** is the site where APCs that have trapped foreign particles in the blood can communicate with lymphocytes.

The **gallbladder** is a small organ that aids the liver by storing bile and concentrating bile salts.

The **kidneys** are a pair of bean-shaped structures that are located just below and posterior to the liver in the peritoneal cavity.

The **liver** produces bile, a digestive juice that is required for the breakdown of fatty components of the food in the duodenum while also processing the vitamins and fats and synthesizing many plasma proteins.

The **colon** is home to many bacteria that aid in the digestive processes.

The **small intestine** is the organ where the digestion of protein, fats, and carbohydrates is completed.
