Description

**The nephron** is the functional unit of the kidney, which is responsible for actively filtering blood and producing urine. The nephron consists of two main structures: the renal corpuscle and renal tubule. Nephrons have two types: cortical nephrons, located within the renal cortex, and juxtamedullary nephrons, positioned in the renal cortex near the renal medulla. Nephrons filter and exchange water and solutes through two sets of blood vessels, interacting closely with the kidney's surrounding tissue fluid.
