Eudicots Leaf Structure

by Corinth

Description

The leaves are placed on the stem so they absorb as much light as possible for the process of photosynthesis. They can be connected to the stem by a petiole. The petiole is followed by a flat blade of various morphology. Leaves can be simple or compound, in which case the blade is subdivided into leaflets. In the course of evolution leaves changed into tendrils, spines, bulbs or traps of carnivorous plants. Bracts are specialized leaves associated with flowers or inflorescences.
