Oat is a cereal crop in the grass family (*Poaceae*), originally introduced to Europe as a weed among wheat and barley. Its inflorescence is called a panicle, and its flowers are structured typically for grass. Each flower is surrounded by bracts (known as the lemma and palea), with a reduced perianth consisting of two lodicules and three stamens. Oat is commonly used as livestock feed and in food production. The grains are rich in fiber and can be rolled into flakes, which is the primary ingredient in muesli and oatmeal.
