Ox-Eye Daisy ‒ Inflorescence

by Corinth

Description

Ox-eye daisy is a herb growing in meadows and grasslands and usually it lives for 2–4 years. Underneath the ground it hides a long rhizome. Its inferior and upper leaves are differently shaped. The flower heads grow individually at the end of the stem and they are 3–7 cm (1‒3 inches) in diameter. The outer ray flowers are white (their ligule consists of 3 fused petals) while the inner disk flowers are yellow. Several bracts with black-brown margins are located under the head. The fruit is an achene.
