Wood Anemone (Anemone Nemorosa)

by STEAM3D

Description

The wood anemone blooms early in spring, before the leaves of other plants create shade. By summer, the upper part of the plant withers, but its rhizomes remain underground. These rhizomes facilitate vegetative propagation, which is why it is common to see extensive "carpets" of anemones in woodlands. The flowers typically have six white or pinkish tepals, numerous stamens and carpels, and are preceded by three bracts. Like many other members of the Ranunculaceae family, the wood anemone is poisonous. ## Keywords vascular plants angiosperms eudicots Ranunculales Buttercups anemone
