Small-Leaved Lime (Tilia Cordata)

by STEAM3D

Description

The small-leaved lime is a tree that can reach heights of up to 30 meters (around 100 feet) and is commonly planted in cultivated landscapes. It often develops new branches at the base of the trunk. The leaves are heart-shaped (cordate), with serrated edges and small tufts of brown hair in the vein axils. Its inflorescence typically consists of 4–12 greenish flowers emerging from the axil of a bract. This bract aids in dispersal, allowing the fruits to float away from the tree. The flowers are used to make tea, and the wood is prized for carving. The small-leaved lime is also the national tree of Czechia/Czech Republic. ## Keywords angiosperms plants eudicots Malvales Malvaceae lime
