Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria)

by STEAM3D

Description

The fly agaric is a fungus that forms a mutually beneficial relationship with trees such as pine, spruce, fir, or beech. Although it is poisonous, fatalities from consuming the fungus are rare. Known for its hallucinogenic properties, the fly agaric is easily recognized by its distinctive red cap covered with white warts, which are remnants of the universal veil, a membrane that encloses the young fruiting body. Beneath the cap, it has white gills, and the stipe (stalk) is also white with a grooved ring. Historical texts mention that fly agaric caps were once sprinkled in milk to attract and kill flies. ## Keywords Fungi Basidiomycota Agaricomycetes Agaricales Amanitaceae Amanita Amanita muscaria
