**Information:** Water is the most important compound composed of hydrogen and oxygen. Under normal conditions it is colourless and in thick layer it is bluish, odourless and a tasteless liquid. Its melting point and boiling point (0ºC and 100ºC) are essential elements for the Celsius scale. Hydrogen bondings are formed between molecules of water.

**Use:** Water is an excellent solvent and reagent in many chemical reactions, including those that take place in living organisms. Drinking water is essential for life on earth.

**Appearance:** It occurs in three states: Solid (snow and ice), liquid (water) and gas (water vapour).
