The Celestial Grouper, also known as the Lyretail Grouper, is found in coral reef environments across the Indo-Pacific region, particularly in lagoons and outer reef slopes at depths of 2 to 150 meters. It is a solitary and territorial fish, often seen patrolling its home range while hunting for smaller fish and crustaceans. Known for its striking red to pink coloration with blue spots, this grouper can change color to camouflage with its surroundings and to communicate with other fish.
