Ancient Egyptian Pottery

by ClassVR

Description

Pottery was used for various things in ancient Egypt, including storing food and water. Pots were often painted with scenes about everyday life, religion and mythological themes. Sometimes, they were inscribed with hieroglyphs dedicated to their owner or a specific god or goddess. These particular vessels are designed to replicate pottery made with Nile clay, which, when dry, had a reddish-brown hue because of the high silicon and iron oxide content. However, ceramics were also made from marl clay from the desert, which has a yellowy-white coloring because of limestone deposits.
