Boomerangs were a curved throwing stick primarily used for hunting and warfare by the Aboriginals of Australia. However, boomerangs are also works of art, and Australian Aboriginals often paint or carve designs on them related to legends and traditions. Boomerangs continue to be used in some religious ceremonies. They are clapped together or pounded on the ground as an accompaniment to songs or chants.
