A soldier writing a letter to his father. In their spare time, many soldiers would write letters to their loved ones back home. Letter writing was the main form of communication between soldiers and their loved ones, who they might never see again. Censorship also limited what soldiers could reveal in their letters. WWI letter collections and diaries worldwide have since provided us with a personal and powerful first-person view of the war.
